On 13 and 14 October 2026, filming for the Indian historical feature “The India House” took place at Kreenholm in Narva. For two days, the historic industrial complex became a filming location for an international production.

The Kreenholm shoot formed part of the film’s production in Estonia. The crew also filmed in Tallinn’s Old Town and Jäneda. Estonian company Nafta Films is coordinating local production.

Young Indians in Early 20th-Century London

“The India House” takes viewers to England at the beginning of the 20th century. The story follows young Indians studying in London who challenge colonial rule. Against a backdrop of historical events, the characters’ personal stories intertwine with their struggle for their rights.

One of the main storylines follows an Indian woman seeking to earn a degree at a British university. Her experience explores the social tensions of the time and the barriers women faced in gaining access to higher education.

Estonian Locations Stand In for England

In Estonia, the filmmakers found several locations suited to recreating England a century ago. Outside the Sõprus cinema in Tallinn’s Old Town, 150 people took part in a crowd scene depicting male students protesting against women’s access to university education. Period costumes, horse-drawn carriages and vintage cars helped bring the era to life.

In Jäneda, a local pond stood in for the River Thames, while the village doubled as London. With its historic industrial architecture, Kreenholm joined the film’s roster of Estonian locations.

The film is produced by Hyderabad-based studio Abhishek Agarwal Arts and stars Indian actor Nikhil Siddharth. Its cinematographer, K. K. Senthil Kumar, is known for his work on the internationally acclaimed films “Baahubali” and “RRR”.

Information about the film and its other filming locations in Estonia is based on reports by ERR and Virumaa Teataja.
